Church History

June 20, 1982. That morning forty-one people met at the Greer City Auditorium on Trade Street for Sunday School.

June 27, 1982. In addition to Sunday School there was a morning and evening worship service with Reverend Dan Smith speaking. The Church also elected Al Every secretary and treasurer.

July 25, 1982. The church moved to 114 Poinsett Street above Gregory's Boutique.

October 31, 1982. The church elected deacons and formally elected Rev. Smith as pastor. The deacons elected were James Miller, Baylus Monroe and Roy Loftis.

March 1983. The property the church is currently at was discovered.

May 9, 1983. The church completed the purchase of eight acres at the corner of Suber and Hood. The property was part of the former Hood Dairy.

August 22, 1983. Drawings of the new building were presented to the congregation.

January 15, 1984. The church was approved by Security Church Finance to issue bonds to pay for the new sanctuary.

February 1, 1984. The church moved to a temporary location at 102 E. Poinsett Street. The new location was on the ground floor.

April 1, 1984. A groundbreaking ceremony was held at Suber Rd.

October 14, 1984. The first service was held in the new and current sanctuary.

December 2, 1984. A Dedication Service was held for the new church.

June 1993. The church voted to borrow money to pay off the bonds and build a Fellowship building.

July 7, 1993. Groundbreaking ceromony for the new fellowship building.

November 1993. The construction is completed.

November 10, 1993. The first payment is made on the 15 year mortgage.

1994. A softball field was built on the back of the church property.

1996. The Men's Brotherhood voted to build a picnic shelter.

January 23, 2001. After seven years, two months, one week and six days the mortgage is paid in full and the church is debt free.

March 25, 2001. The church had a special celebration and a mortgage burning. It was in memory of founding Deacons James Miller, Baylus Monroe and Al Every. Roy Loftis a surviving founding Deacon was named Deacon Emeritus.

July 2003. The church adds a garage and storage room onto the fellowship building.
